Cruise ship jobs at Virgin Voyages . An IT/Systems Specialist is needed at Virigin Voyages. The IT Specialist ensures a seamless Sailor Experience when it comes to Shipboard Technology and attends to maintenance duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Looking for an upcoming team leader that has the ability to assist the IT Manager when needed with daily duties.
- One who can be a leader of people, but also has the technical skills needed to maintain a smooth operation.
- Ability to assess, communicate, and escalate technology outages appropriately, with the intention to minimizing downtime onboard the vessel.
- Has the drive to keep an organized virtual environment, understands the importance of monitoring and alerting, and will take ownership of the Shipboard Network and Server infrastructure.
- Ability to write technical documentation and document daily routines that are not already documented.
- Also having the ability to document outages, errors, and changes in a timely manner and in a way that others can read, understand and learn.
- Pays attention to details when documenting and reporting appropriately.
- Ability to effectively plan for upcoming ports of call and embarkation days.
- Provide shipboard end user support as required.
- Maintain shipboard end user devices per Standard Operating Procedures provided and in a secure manner.
- Maintain and withhold system and data security as a top priority onboard.
- Maintain the VSAT system and providing support when needed to the ship to shore communications and data transfer.
- Maintain the onboard Data Centers in an organized, structured manner.
- Assuring the shipboard network infrastructure is maintained with minimal down time, assuring latest approved firmware is applied.
- Performs daily, voyage, monthly and other computer operations as detailed in Run Books and other documents.
- General support of Shipboard systems (PMS, POS, VOIP, CCTV, LMS, CREW MGMT, EMR, etc) is a team responsibility ensuring minimal downtime and reporting/escalating problems in a timely manner. Supporting all shipboard users to keep workstations in working condition, including PC workstations, mobile devices, Point Of Sale terminals, cabling systems, servers and related hardware.
- User requests must be responded to promptly during normal working hours and extended hours may be required as needed for mission critical systems support.
- Maintaining the shipboard fiber and copper network infrastructure
- Ensure that planned maintenance assigned to their discipline is conducted and reported.
- Attends passenger functions as instructed by the Head of Department.
- Partake in inspections, trainings and meetings as instructed by the Head of Department.
- Other tasks pertaining to departmental operations as instructed by the Head of Department.
- Ensures that the set Standard Operating Procedures are kept and crew members work according to their respective job descriptions.
Qualifications
- Minimum associates degree in Computer Science and/or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum 5 years experience as an IT Officer onboard a Ship.
- Network and Data Center focused individual, certifications in network, server, and VMware are a bonus for this position.
- All certificates as required by the STCW code for this position.
- Good command of the English Language.
