Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain complex database queries, stored procedures, triggers and functions.
- Optimize database performance, manage database partitions, indexing and improve query execution times.
- Experience with database platforms such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle or similar systems.
- Build and maintain database replication and backup strategies to ensure data integrity and high availability.
- Collaborate with application development teams to design database schemas and optimize data access patterns.
- Implement and manage database monitoring, alerts and performance tuning tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
- Ensure database security by implementing best practices and regular audits.
- Experience with cloud-based databases and database services such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database or Google Cloud SQL.
- Automate routine tasks using scripting languages such as Python, Bash or PowerShell.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues and provide support in identifying root causes.
- Mentor junior engineers and share database best practices and knowledge with other teams.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure data availability and integrity during software deployment processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
- 4-8 years of experience in database engineering or administration.
- Solid experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server or Oracle.
- Experience with database automation and configuration management tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet.
- Knowledge of database security, performance tuning, replication, and backup strategies.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB, Cassandra or DynamoDB is a plus.
- Experience with DevOps practices and working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on performance and troubleshooting. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to convey technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
