1. Happiness Engineer—Customer Support & Success

Whether your background is in technical support, customer success, engineer or you’re someone who cares deeply about creating a world-class customer experience, we want to hear from you.

Salary range: $40,000-$68,000 USD – Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location, and we pay in local currency.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of our global team with a high degree of independence and accountability.
  • Assist a variety of customers by email, live chat, voice, and/or video calls. This might include technical troubleshooting with a developer, an educational walkthrough with an end user or a consultative sales call with a mid-sized agency.
  • Go beyond the immediate question to help our customers succeed with our products.
  • Reach out to potential and existing customers to learn about their goals, experience with our products, and how we can ensure their continued success. 
  • Problem-solve, troubleshoot, dogfood, and test.
  • Embrace change and learn new things. 
  • Proactively recommend an idea that will help the customer be more successful.

Qualifications

  • You have deep experience in technical support, engineering and/or customer success. Proficiency with WordPress is a big plus. 
  • You are an expert communicator and can quickly establish rapport with end users, developers, and agency clients alike. You must be able to write and speak fluently in English.
  • You’re an exceptional problem-solver and have great judgment. Your solutions not only fix immediate issues but also pave the way for sustained growth for our customers with our products and services.
  • You value accountability and are impeccable with follow-through. You stay professional and respectful in intense situations, comfortably de-escalate upset customers, and welcome critical feedback.

  • You have experience with eCommerce or setting up a business.
  • Experience as either a deep technical troubleshooter (“Tier 3” or other escalated support team) or a customer success representative or technical account manager for agency-level clientele.
  • Experience creating and supporting WordPress websites, and with customizing WordPress themes and plugins using PHP, CSS, JS and HTML.

2. Senior Product Designer

We’re on the lookout for talented designers who are passionate about world-class user experience, deeply understand the needs of our users and are interested in working with a diverse and global team. You will also be working closely with engineers, marketers and customer support specialists from around the world in a fully remote company to create products that make online publishing and commerce accessible to everyone.

Responsibilities

  • Design exceptional products from start to finish, participating in all phases of design from definition to development and optimization. 
  • Iterate actively with prototypes at all levels of design fidelity, informed by user research, market trends and business goals.
  • Communicate and share often in written, verbal and visual forms to create alignment and move the work toward implementation.
  • Collaborate regularly with engineers to ship high-quality experiences.
  • Contribute to both Automattic products and the larger open-source and design communities.

Qualifications

  • A past work experience that is relevant for Automattic: experience with consumer products, remote work, WordPress, e-commerce, site editors
  • A keenness for identifying user needs, defining clear solutions and delivering those through detailed design.
  • The flexibility to design in low and high fidelity and choose the most efficient and responsible process for the job at hand.
  • The ability to integrate feedback, validate and iterate on our products while being mindful of our customers, contributors and insights gleaned by our support teams.

3. Code Wrangler

Salary range: $70,000-$170,000 USD. Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location, and we pay in local currency.

Qualifications

  • Have production experience with several programming languages. We mostly use PHP and JavaScript at Automattic so you should either be familiar with them already or the idea of using them on a daily basis should not be a blocker for you.
  • Have experience working on a large-scale system. Making it faster, more scalable, and fault-tolerant.
  • Know about systems architecture.
  • Are highly collaborative and you love participating in code reviews and discussions about architecture, or design.
  • Are passionate about and experienced in software development; in particular, advanced PHP knowledge is a plus.
  • Are knowledgeable about design patterns and testability; having experience with testing frameworks, performance testing and unit testing is very welcome.
  • Are thoughtful about product design with good user experience instincts.
  • Are open and able to travel 3-4 weeks per year to meet up with your teammates in person.
  • WordPress programming experience.
  • Open source contributions or contributions to programs designed to help underrepresented people enter the tech field.
  • Experience working on accessibility.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript.
  • Data analysis experience and understanding of how analytics can help with product decisions.
  • Knowledge of tooling and build systems.

4. Account Director, WordPress VIP

Salary range: $80,000 – $165,000 USD, with a variable component. Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location and we pay in local currency.

Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and business-focused Account Director to join our team, which is responsible for customer retention and growth at WordPress VIP. As the customer’s strategic advisor, the Account Director is the point person for their business, working with senior level technical, marketing, content, and procurement contacts. The right candidate will be able to learn the customer’s business and objectives, build relationships, and identify opportunities for expansion. The Relationship Management team works across both CMS and Analytics customers.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with a book of WordPress VIP customers, developing an understanding of the customer’s business objectives and success metrics.
  • Partner with the Customer Success team to ensure customer retention.
  • Identify and pursue strategic opportunities for expansion within the accounts.
  • Steer complex pricing negotiations with key stakeholders.
  • Proactively communicate needs, alerts and statuses internally.

Qualifications

  • Ability to provide insights and analysis around sales and revenue data to understand trends, highlight issues, and provide recommended actions.
  • Ability to provide follow-up on account actions by tracking progress against deadlines and driving activity.
  • 7-10 + years of sales operations, business development or similar experience.
  • Experience working with customers in the Media and/or Publishing industry. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Effective influencing and relationship building skills with strong executive presence.

5. Account Manager, Tumblr

Tumblr is looking for an Account Manager to join our direct sales team. You will work closely with a team of Brand Partners across multiple advertising clients, to support  pre-sales efforts through to post-sale campaign execution and wrap. As an early member of our growing team, you will also be a critical part of crafting our story, shaping our culture, strategy and product roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Brand Partners on creating compelling and data driven pre-sales materials, RFP responses, media plans and campaign wrap reports.
  • Lead post-sale client communications and campaign launch from kick-off to reporting wrap-up, with a customer-centric approach and eye towards renewals
  • Oversee the execution, optimization and analysis of advertising programs using internal tools and dashboards; including set-up and review of ad trafficking with internal ad operations team. 
  • Serve as key contact and ad product knowledge source for multiple clients, agency partners, and internal teams before, during and after campaigns;
  • Address and resolve campaign issues quickly and effectively while also identifying opportunities for process improvements and  supporting the implementation of  solutions.
  • Help shape Tumblr’s native ads product roadmap by aggregating and sharing client feedback and campaign metrics with cross-functional stakeholders. Including product, design and engineering.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience leading the execution and reporting of digital advertising campaigns for Fortune 500 brands and their agencies
  • Deep understanding of the paid and organic social media, custom content and digital advertising landscape. With

6. Technical Support Lead, Pressable

We need individuals with an advanced background in WordPress, technical know-how that can handle anything that comes their way and the unstoppable determination to get the job done. Our support agents build meaningful relationships with our customers by listening to their needs, understanding their problems and providing tailor-made solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Deeply diving into WordPress and platform-related questions and issues for high-touch enterprise clients and agencies.
  • Advanced troubleshooting for WordPress and platform-related issues.
  • Advanced troubleshooting for WordPress performance issues.
  • Writing and maintaining technical documentation, crafting blog posts and contributing to the community of WordPress support around the globe.
  • Helping educate and teach the CS team to elevate the team’s technical skillset.
  • Communicating and working with other teams and disciplines within Pressable & Automattic.
  • Working with the Sales team to help them land Agency leads.

Qualifications

  • An expert in WordPress, its inner workings, common and advanced issues, community, and proper use cases. You are well-versed in your craft and able to handle complex issues.
  • An advanced foundation in investigating WordPress performance issues
  • Understanding of performance bottlenecks such as slow queries, caching issues and excessive admin-ajax usage.
  • Can propose optimizations and changes to improve performance.
  • An understanding of WordPress security issues
  • Can identify indicators of compromise, investigate and identify potential entry points/causes of compromise leveraging tools like Grafana.
  • Ability to identify threats and escalate accordingly.
  • An understanding of core web technology such as HTTP request methods especially in relation to WordPress, security and caching.
  • An understanding of HTTP status codes, redirects, cookies, headers, CSP, HSTS, CORS also welcome.
  • An understanding and ability to leverage browser developer tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with common web technologies including PHP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS and Git.
